Frequently Asked Questions
FAQs
When is the end-of-year enrollment period for current Medicare beneficiaries?
The Medicare Annual Enrollment period is from October 15 to December 7. During this time, you can change or add insurance coverage. Contact us for assistance.
How much does Medicare part A cost per month?
There is no monthly premium for Medicare part A if you worked 40 or more quarters and paid your Medicare taxes. Or if you are currently married or were married to someone who fits that criteria.
I’m about to turn 65, when should I get in touch with you?
It is best to contact our agency 3-6 months prior to turning 65 in order to discuss your healthcare needs and have a plan in place prior to your initial enrollment period beginning. Your open enrollment starts 90 days prior to turning 65.
At what age am I eligible for Medicare?
In most instances, you are eligible for Medicare at age 65. Some individuals may be eligible prior to turning 65 if disabled and have been collecting SSDI for 24 months. People with certain health conditions such as End-Stage Renal Disease or Lou Gehrig’s disease are also eligible for Medicare prior to age 65.
What’s the difference between Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement?
Medicare Advantage plans are private insurance companies that contract with Medicare to take over and administer Medicare benefits. Medicare Supplement plans keep Medicare Part A and Part B as your primary insurance and look to fill the “gaps” of what Medicare doesn’t cover. Part D drug coverage is not included in these plans and would need to be added separately.
Is my Medicare card sent automatically when I turn 65 or do I have to sign up for Medicare?
It depends. If you are collecting Social Security at least 90 days prior to turning 65, then you are sent a Medicare card automatically. However, this does not enroll you in Medicare Advantage or Supplement plans. Our agency can review the options with you in a complimentary consultation.
If you are not taking Social Security, then you will need to be proactive and sign up for Medicare. Our agency will walk you through that process in a complimentary consultation.
